You!

 'Let's go out',

he said,

'Yes!' She exclaimed,

gleefully!

They talked the evening away.

Days passed,

'let's go out',

'Sure', she smiled.

They walked together,

soaking in the night's

quiet charm,

in each other's company,

quietly though,

avoiding talking about things,

what things?

just things,

certain things,

let's say.

Months passed.

'Let's go out',

he said,

'Are you sure?',

she asked,

'Yes, yes! Come on',

she talked,

'so?', she asked,

'Sorry, what was it, again?'.

She smiled, looking away.

Years passed.

'Let's go out',

'Not feeling too well,

not feeling up to it,

you go',

'you sure?',

'yes, yes'.

He went out, alone.

Two kids,

three decades,

five cities later,

'Let's go out'

'no'

'why?'

'I don't want to'

'You never do!

What's wrong with you?'

He shouted, frowning,

staring at his phone,

too occupied to hear

what she had to say,

'Come on, speak up,

don't just stand there like a statue!'

'Ask yourself',

she wanted to scream back,

'Ask yourself,

why, when, how' ...

'Come on,

what's your problem',

he shouted out louder,

'I really don't have

any patience for this'.

'You',

she finally mustered the courage.

He walked away,

slamming the door behind him.

'Too much truth?'

she wanted to ask,

she stood quiet,

staring out of the window.

Watching days

and months and years

dissolve

into a dull,

dusty,

cloudless sky,

fading into a silent horizon,

in close distance.
